Merely hours before he enters the ‘square jungle’ against Wilmut Hutson in the second edition of the Pro/Am boxing card at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) tonight, Elton ‘Coolie Bully’ Dharry has promised to take care of Orlan ‘Pocket Rocket’ Rogers should he (Rogers) shelve his bragging and sign the document to fight next month end in the third edition of the programme.
Dharry was responding to remarks uttered by Rogers in yesterday’s edition of this newspaper where the former boxer had accused him of employing evasive tactics and refusing to sign a contract to fight him (Rogers).
A furious Dharry spewed venom when this newspaper spoke with him yesterday morning at his hotel. “Don’t worry the ‘Pocket Rocket’ will get his opportunity to back his words,” an incensed Dharry blurted. Explaining the delay for the highly anticipated bout, the American-based boxer said that he has never been afraid of any boxer in his weight class. He said that he was approached by promoter Carwyn Holland sometime ago to fight Rogers and had agreed in principle to the fight. He said that things went awry after he and the promoter failed to arrive at a common compromise and the fight was eventually aborted. “I was already in training and ready to war but other circumstances, not fear on my part, forced a cancellation,” explained Dharry.
When questioned on the possibility of the two coming together in combat Dharry blurted, ‘I am ready for Pocket Rocket anytime, anyplace.”
Rogers, who had intimated a desire to fight Dharry, had accused the American based boxer of dodging him. He pointed out that Dharry had agreed to fight him but had inexplicably opted out of the fight. Rogers further said that Dharry obviously felt more comfortable fighting other boxers while deliberately avoiding him.
Meanwhile, Dharry said that he is presently focused on his four rounds encounter against Wilmut Hutson tonight and does not want to be distracted by Rogers’ rhetoric. “Let him come to the fight tonight and if after I am done with Hutson if he stills feels inclined to fight me then we could sign the contract right there and then,” declared Dharry.
The interest stirred up between the two fighters makes tonight’s encounter between Dharry and Hutson even more delectable. Should Dharry win the bout, a delicious fight against Rogers next month end would be an automatic seller. Should he drop the fight to Hutson then the latter fighter would want to throw his hat in the ring to be Rogers’ next opponent. Whichever way the situation pans out, boxing buffs are the eventual beneficiaries. It makes tonight’s clash an even more anticipated event and fans would not want to miss out on the action.
Fight time is 20:00hrs sharp.
