Football, domino, road race & river swim on the tables
Sports activities apart from the main attraction (Power Boat, Canoe and Jet Ski Races) form an integral part of the overall offerings for fans and supporters of the now famous and established, Bartica Regatta.
And this year will be no different with football, domino, road race and a river swim all planned.
Action will get underway this Sunday at the Bartica Community Centre ground with the knock-out football competition which will feature a total of 8 teams who will be battling for attractive cash prizes and organised by the Bartica Football Association.
The teams listed to participate are Bartica Beacons, Itabali Landing, Brazilians, Rising Stars, Wolves United, Lazio, Rivers View and Bartica/Potaro Road Strikers. Central Bartica were the winners of last year’s tournament and they were led to victory by the tournament MVP and Best Goalkeeper, Simon Lynch.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport, Calmeth Young, Regatta Sports Coordinator disclosed that the domino competition would commence sometime next week and he is expecting a record number of teams competing.
On April 3, the eagerly anticipated River Swim from Kaow Island to Bartica is set to take off at 07:00hrs. Last year’s winners, male and female were Dorian Andries and Donica Summerson. The defending champions will find the going tough against a number of other competitors who have already said that they will rule the roost this time around.
Also set for April 3, is the ‘Run Bartica Run’ road race which commences at the Cenotaph (Stelling Road) at 06:00hrs going through the streets and avenues of Bartica before ending at the starting point.
The first to third place finishers in the male and female categories along with the oldest male and female as well as the youngest participants will all be rewarded with cash prizes. The male winner last year was Donovan Washington.
