Guyana’s Fullbore Shooting Captain, Mahendra Persaud, started off the 2010 Rifle Shooting season by winning the First Recorded Shoot held on Sunday last at the Timehri Rifle Ranges over 300, 600 and 900 yards.
Persaud dropped just 1 point for the entire day at 300 yards and then shot 2 possibles, 35:3 V Bulls at 600 and 35:5 V Bulls at 900 to overtake arch rival and teammate Ransford Goodluck at the final range.
Goodluck also had 2 possibles at 300 (35:4) and 600 yards (35:2) but just could not finish strong enough to hold off Persaud who finished with a healthy 3 point lead.
In very hot and windy conditions with the wind gusting and at times changing angles and direction, Persaud shot 34:3 at 300 yards, then shot the above 2 possibles to finish with a total of 104 :11 V’s. Goodluck shot 31:2 at 900 yards for a total of 101:8 V’s.
These recorded shoots forms part of Guyana’s preparation for the upcoming West Indies Fullbore Shooting Championships to be held at the Paragon Rifle Ranges in Barbados from May 23 to 31.
Guyana is presently the defending Champions for both the Short Range, formerly known as the
BWIA Cup and long Range (Milex) Trophies.
In Barbados, Guyana will be aiming to win an unprecedented fourth consecutive Short Range
Title in a row having won in 2007 in Guyana, 2008 in Jamaica and 2009 in Trinidad.
The Local shooters will be attempting to win the Short Range Title in Barbados, something they
have not achieved in a very long time.
The local National Championships (2009) will be held in April to sharpen up the shooters but the emphasis will be on the Recorded Team Shoots over all the ranges from 300 yards to 1000 yards in the time remaining before Barbados.
