Elton Lambert took the ‘A’ class title while Wilfred Robinson won the ‘B’ class category in the Guyana Draughts Association (GDA) National Draughts two-day competition at the Guyana National Stadium at Providence over the weekend.
In the ‘A’ division on Sunday, veteran Lambert continued to dominate the division with 33 points. Wilbert ‘Buckman’ Freeman was 2nd with 31 points and Robinson 3rd with 25 points.
The fourth position was occupied by Khemraj ‘Rat’ Pooranmall with 21 points while the 5th position was shared by GDA President Mr Jairam and E. Grandison with 19 points each.
On Saturday, Robinson captured the ‘B’ title with 38 points ahead of Pooranmall (32 points), Jairam (27 points) and Mark Braithwaite (26 points).
Ulric Braithwaite and Edgar Downer shared the 5th position with 25 points each.
The first 5 players in both divisions were awarded cash incentives, trophies, and gifts in the round-robin competition which attracted 25 persons.
Jairam presented the prizes at the presentation in the absence of Director of Sports Neil Kumar who had to attend another activity.
Barns Security Services, GT&T, Pooran Oil Mills Inc, Two Brothers Gas Station, Haroon Bacchus, Mohamed’s Enterprise, Keishar’s Shipping Complex, Mr Yassin of Guyana Stores Limited, P&P Insurance Brokers and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports were among the sponsors of the event.
