– Saeed Ali captures juniors
Taffin Khan employed shrewd tactics and eventually amassed 5 games and 2 draws to capture the Jumbo Jet Rapid Chess Tournament organized by the Guyana Chess Federation in association with Jumbo Jet Auto Sales, held over the past weekend. Saeed Ali maintained his excellent form and won five games as against one draw to secure the top podium position in the junior category.
Taffin also registered wins over his father David Khan and Jason Allicock. The elder Khan took the second podium position beating tournament director, Irshad Mohamed into third place.
The final points standing in the senior category reads: Taffin Khan (6), David Khan and Irshad Mohamed (5 points apiece), Dennis Dillon (4 1/2), Jason Allicock, Ryan Singh and Rawle Borrow (4) Errol Tiwari and Ronald Roberts (3 1/2), Alex Joseph (3), Leonardo Butcher and Joseph Lall (2 1/2) while the lone female Amrita Singh finished on 1 1/2 points.
Raan Motilall finished second in the junior category Rashad Hussain finished th the third position. The final points standing: Raan Motilall (4 1/2), Rashad Hussain and Kana Khan (4), Miranda Ramnarine, Ashwant Satamand and Ron Motilall (3 1/2 apiece), Sham Khan and Suhai Feng (2 1/2 each) and Mandy Ramnarine and Devendra Singh (2 points apiece).
