… Wounded shootout suspect detained
Alleged teenage gunman, Robin Holder, was discharged from the Georgetown Hospital under police guard yesterday, as detectives investigate his possible links to two recent
nightspot murders.
The 19-year-old Holder, known to his associates as “Nuff Wuck”, is being detained at the Golden Grove Police Station.
Kaieteur News understands that he is to be placed on identification parades in relation to several armed robberies, including the January 8 murder of waitress, Kulmattie Singh, at the Safraz Bar in Kitty and the March 3 killing of Canada-based Guyanese, Rawle Harding, at the Cool Square nightspot.
Detectives have received information which suggest that a gang of young gunmen committed both killings and other recent armed robberies in the city and Greater Georgetown.
Robin Holder, of North East La Penitence, was shot on Wednesday night during a confrontation with police ranks at the Texaco Service Station in Mandela Avenue.
Police allege that he was carrying a black .38 revolver (serial number 2173906) with five rounds.
At the time of his arrest, Holder had identified himself as Akeem Rose. Police sources said that they had been trying to locate the suspect for some time following the waitress’s murder. Waitress Kulmattie Singh was shot in the head when three gunmen barged into the popular Safraz Bar and Restaurant at Lamaha and David Streets in Kitty.
Jason Montgomery, a 36-year-old Australian, was shot in the abdomen, while Ronald Dhanraj, another patron, was shot under his left arm.
Canada-based Guyanese Rawle Harding was shot dead and stripped of his jewellery on March 3 by one of two gunmen who had invaded the popular Cool Square nightspot in West Ruimveldt.
Both killings were caught on close camera footage at the two locations.
Police have charged Dwaine Critchlow, a 27-year-old miner of Vigilance, East Coast Demerara, and Junior Bourne, 19, of East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, in connection with Harding’s death.
Investigators believe that Holder’s accomplice in the Mandela Avenue confrontation is a man known as ‘Cobra’, who is suspected to have gunned down a man in Cayenne in 2009.
Police believe that the men were planning a robbery when the TSU ranks confronted them on Wednesday night near the service station.
Police allege that Holder and his accomplice had opened fire at a police patrol while sitting in a car.
