Late Harold ‘Lightweight’ Kissoon to be honoured
United States based organisation, ‘The Flank’, made up of a group of Lodge residents living in USA, will be hosting a grand fun-day and picnic for the residents of Lodge on Wednesday April 7, 2010.
According to Executive member of the group, Brian Clarke, while this is the first event of this nature, their aim is to make the event annual since it’s their objective to revive the Lodge community and bring it back to its glory days.
A number of activities will be contested on the day at the Lodge Playfield just behind the old Radio Station on Hadfield Street.
Events include track & field and a feature Under-11 football game between Sunburst Camptown and Fruta Conquerors.
Clarke also disclosed that the group will be honouring the Late Harold ‘Lightweight’ Kissoon for the role he played in forming the Lodge Rovers Football club which they are aiming to resuscitate in the new year starting from Under-11.
“We will be focusing in a major way on producing rounded players, thus a high degree on education which we know is vitally important for our youngsters if they want to succeed in life. Football yes, but education and sports, go hand in hand.”
Clarke, a former accredited United States Soccer Federation Referee, now retired, said that the USA based committee is aiming to set up a vibrant arm in Guyana and this is just the start of what is to come. The committee also sponsors an annual Christmas Party for the children of Lodge.
