National Table Tennis Coach, Linden Johnson believes that the Under-13 Boys are strong while the Under-10 Boys and Under-13 Girls are a bit shaky as preparation intensifies for the Caribbean Cadets and Junior Table Tennis Championships.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport yesterday, Johnson said that the Under-10 Boys are doing a lot of work to defend the title Kyle Edghill and Elishaba Johnson among others had won at the last Caribbean Championships.
Edghill have since moved up to the Under-13 category with Jamaal Duff, Ryan Naraine and Joseph Johnson completing the team. They made a way for Amit Mookram, Jeremy Singh and two others that are still to be confirmed in the Under-10.
“The Under-13 Boys are fairly strong but the Under-10 Boys are a little bit shaky. We are also looking a little bit shaky in the Under-13 Girls since one of them Tiara Narine pulled out of the team,” Johnson informed this newspaper.
According to the national coach, Chelsea Edghill and Priscilla Greaves are two quality players in the Under-13 Girls team and will have their work cut out in leading the team to victory along with Jamaali Homer and probably a replacement.
“Priscilla and Chelsea are two strong players. They could pull that team but we are still looking a bit shaky there,” Johnson said adding that the Guyana Table Tennis Association is still to confirm the number of teams that will compete.
He said based on that confirmation, he will be better able to analyse his team. The Cadets will be the first to travel since their competition starts on Saturday. The Juniors will travel after because their tournaments starts on April 2.
The Caribbean Cadets and Junior Championships will be held in Puerto Rico this year.
