Kings edged Retrieve Raiders in a thriller and Bulls trampled Block 22 Flames in the first two games to open the Linden Amateur Basketball Association’s Under-21 tournament at Mackenzie Sports Club Basketball Court Friday night.
Bulls set the tone for a competitive night of local basketball when they easily outclassed a struggling Block 22 side 58-32 to record a win. Michael Turner had 21 points for Bulls in the game while Keon Cameron supported with 16 points.
Jermaine Bouyea was the highest scorer for Block 22 Flames with nine points. Block was struggling offensively in the second half, adding only 13 points to their halftime score of 19 in the last half. Bulls led 26-19 mid through the game.
In the featured encounter of the double-header, Orin Rose led Kings to a 54-52 points win in a thrilling battle that confirmed that Retrieve-based Raiders is one of the new forces to reckon with in the junior version of basketball in Linden.
Raiders had reached the final in the Under-19 competition in Linden a few weeks ago and looks like they will create a similar impression at the Under-21 level. But Kings were too good on the night, holding their nerves to prevail.
Rose had 18 points at the end with Sheldon Noel adding 15 points and Clifton Halley 12 points in the win for Kings. Devon Gittens was the main scorer for Raiders with 14 points while Dwight McKinnon supported with 10 points.
The competition continues Wednesday night at the same venue with Raiders taking on New Ballers in the first game and Bulls and Royals going head-to-head in the featured game of the Linden Under-21 Championships.
