Two former employees of the Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD) have been granted bail after being charged for stealing some $3.5M worth in equipment.
The duo, Linden Bishop and Japeth Chase, made their appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
It is alleged that between March 4 and March 13, the two men broke and entered the T&HD store room and stole 5 core assemblies, valued $1.7M, 1 tube assembly worth $717,000, 4- 13-plate car batteries valued at $94,800, one computer and printer, worth $189,840 and 2 five-gallon containers of marine paint valued $85,840.
Both men pleaded not guilty to the charge.
They were represented by defense counsel Adrian Thompson. In making a bail application, Thompson told the court that his clients have fixed places of abode and were charged wrongfully.
Thompson explained that the two men were working at the store and an audit was done. Following the audit it was discovered that the items were missing, hence the charges were laid against his clients since they were working at the time the items supposedly went missing.
Bail was not objected to and was granted to the tune of $150,000 each.
The accused are to return to court on April 28.
