Most of the top local drivers and bikers have signalled their intentions to participate in the season opening event of the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club which will be held on Sunday, March 28, at the South Dakota Circuit.
According to an official from the entity, the country’s top performers in all the different categories will be participating in what is anticipated to be a thrilling day of action to start the season.
Drivers from Trinidad and Tobago, the USA and Canada are scheduled to participate in the Meet.
Expected to highlight the day’s activities is the eagerly anticipated return of former Group 4 champion Mark Vieira, who did confirm his participation.
Vieira has been missing from competition for nearly one year due to mechanical problems, but from all indications seems to have solved that is rearing to go.
However, he will have to contend with the evergreen Andrew King, whose machine have been a model of reliability recently and the fans will be hoping that the two go at each other and give them breathtaking entertainment reminiscent of their old battles in the past.
Kevin Jeffrey looked good in the Barbados Meet, but experienced mechanical difficulty in the November Meeting here, but should he get his problems sorted out, he could be the man to beat.
As usual, the smaller categories are expected to provide much spills and thrills and are a major attraction for the spectators.
In the Group 4 division, the likes of Ryan Rahaman, Ravi Singh, and Gavin Gayadin will resume their rivalry, while the Group 2B and A categories which are normally fully subscribed is expected to provide some gripping action.
The big bikes are another crowd pleasing affair and with Stephen ‘Valentino Rossi’ now the new king on the block, dismantling him could take some doing.
Vieira’s confidence must be soaring after his scorching demolition of Canadian speed ace Kevin Graham, who had ruled the roost for quite sometime, before being dethroned by the Guyanese, but there are local contenders like Maurice Menezes and Gregory Lopes who both could pose a real threat to the champion. Marcus Fiedtkou should dominate the go-karts, but Stanley Ming and his son could act as the spoilers in that category.
All in all the day is expected to offer exhilarating races for the fans.
