On Friday last, the Guyana Police Force defeated the Guyana Fire Service Cricket Team to capture the Balram Raghubir Trophy at the final of the annual 40 overs cricket competition which was played at the Police Sports Club, Eve Leary.
Batting first the Police team rattled up a total of 177 runs and bowled out the Guyana Fire Service for 108 runs in their reply. Corporal 16901 George of the Police team was adjudged the Man-of-the-Match for his knock of an even 50.
On their way to winning the competition which is played among the Joint Services, the Police Force Team defeated City Constabulary in the preliminary round and the defending champion Guyana Defence Force in the semi-final.
In the match against the Guyana Defence Force the Police scored a total of 300 runs, which is the highest in the history of the competition, with the army responding with 203.
The Balram Raghubir Annual 40 overs Cricket Competition has been contested for several years now within the Joint Services and was formerly the Carl Austin Trophy.
