Gunners and Lima have qualified for the final of the R&D Engineering Service twenty/20 cricket competition after recording victories in their respective semi-final matches played last Sunday in North Essequibo.
At Anna Regina Community Centre ground, Gunners defeated Walton Hall by 7 runs in the first semi-final. Gunners took first turn at the crease and managed 109-4 after the game was reduced to 15 overs due to rain.
Christopher Boucher led with 58 while Navin Singh made 41 as Suresh Persaud and Uvendra Balgobin grabbed two wickets apiece for Walton Hall who scored 102-4 off their allotted overs. Persaud returned to hit 39 and Balgobin 26. Greson Paul took 2-20 for the winners.
In the second semi-final played at the same venue, Lima got the better of Young Achievers by 17 runs. Lima batted first and posted 158-7 in 20 overs. Rajiv Manichand top scored with 44 and Imtiaz Ghanie supported with 30. Darmien Scott (4-26) and Leroy Persaud (2-30) were the main wicket takers for Young Achievers made 141 all out in 19 overs.
Tameshwar Dhanpaul was their leading run getter with 39 while Scott assisted with 27 as Nimron Bahadur picked up 3-21, Rajiv Manichand 2-20 and Sabash Maipaul 2-15 for the victors. The final will be played on Sunday at the same venue.
