Thousands of years ago, after civilization was formed, humans began to think along lines that were similar to each other. Some common statements have become the culture of all human beings wherever they live and whatever genes they have.
These common expressions are in the millions and one would not know where to start should one try to enumerate them (an impossible task anyway). For the purpose of this essay as a reply to one of President Jagdeo’s assistants, Randy Persaud, I will cite one of these frequently spoken phrases. “If I should live another ten years I would like to be rich.”
I have just randomly chosen the number 10. One has to be a complete fool to think that when that utterance is made the person fears that his life is coming to an end or he is speculating on his health. It is just a natural flow that comes from living.
Using the same argument, a human being would look at a youthful person and say; “If he lives another ten years, he is going to be the president of this country.” One really has to be an idiot to believe that the person who spoke those words is making a comment on the question of death.
I believe most human beings on Planet Earth have one time or another reflected on the possibility that should this or that person stay in good health then they will achieve fame. Let’s try this one; “If Beyonce reaches old age, she would still be a beautiful woman.”
Is that a speculation on the type of life the American pop star lives and are you speculating on her life style? No normal thinking person would think so.
Enter Randy Persaud, one of President Jagdeo’s public relations aides (he refuses to announce his designation). First let me offer you the statement I made then we will judge the talent of this new presidential assistant.
Last Saturday, writing about Moses Nagamootoo’s chances of leading the PPP into a national election, I wrote; “If the PPP wins the 2011 elections and the President remains in mental and physical shape, then obviously THAT PERSON (emphasis mine) will be re-nominated “
Let me quote Persaud’s interpretation of that statement above. Writing the next day in KN, he observed; “He (Kissoon) DISGRACEFULLY (emphasis mine) speculates on the mental and physical fitness of President Jagdeo.”
First, only a moron would read an intention to derogate in that statement of mine. Disgrace is defined as “to bring into dishonour, to cast aspersion upon, to seek to discredit, to cast reproach upon.”
I will repeat my statement so readers can see what type of people President Jagdeo has as his assistants in administering the affairs of Guyana. I opined that, “if the PPP wins the 2011 elections and the President remains in mental and physical shape, then obviously that person will be re-nominated.”
Can someone be so illiterate to say that you are disgracing the President?
Secondly, I want Randy Persaud to know that fear is an instinct I never knew and don’t have and I do not fear anyone so they cannot force me to substitute the words THAT PERSON for President Jagdeo. If I wanted to say should President Jagdeo remain in good health, I would have printed his name. I would have written the words, PRESIDENT JAGDEO.
Now we have a reply by Persaud. He claims that I meant President Jagdeo because I have written several times that Mr. Jagdeo would be the PPP presidential candidate for the 2011 elections. When or where did I opine that Mr. Jagdeo would be the President after the 2011 elections?
I got news for Randy Persaud. I still hold the view that Mr. Jagdeo will get the nomination. But he will not be the President if the PPP wins.
There is nothing in the Constitution to stop a political party from nominating a person three or four consecutive times as its presidential candidate. The argument inside the PPP is that only Mr. Jagdeo can secure a victory. So they will go with him and if they win, he will become the Prime Minister and the king behind the throne.
The PPP’s problem is who to make the President if it wins I don’t think it will come to that because the PPP will lose the next general election. That takes care of the crazy (I can’t think of another word though I mean no insult) argument of Randy Persaud.
Are these the kind of people President Jagdeo employs to help him? Where is the talent?
