As the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC), in collaboration with the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) prepares to stage the second edition of the Pro/Am boxing card, boxing buffs can be assured of fistic fury from gong to gong.
The card, which would also witness 8 amateur boxers vying for supremacy against each other, also has an international flare following successful efforts to procure the services of New York based bantamweight, Elton ‘Coolie Bully’ Dharry, up against former amateur champion, Wilmot Hutson.
The two will headline the professional segment which also includes Mandessa Moses against Ali Marques in a catchweight encounter. Shawn Pyle opposes Paul Lewis (jnr) in the junior welterweight department while middleweights Troy Lewis and Eversley Browne battle for honours. All bouts are four rounders.
Meanwhile, the executives of the GABA have released the names of the amateur boxers on the card.
In the first bout, in the U-15 category, Donald Trapp (Timerhi Warriors) is up against Richard Williamson of the Pocket Rocket Boxing Gym (PRBG).
Female featherweights Theresa London (FYF) and Amanda Norville (HE) will square off in the second bout while Mervyn Ageday (FYF) and Stephon Gouveia box each other. The final amateur bout should be a scorcher when Devon Boatswain (GDF) and Delroy James (REP) go after each other.
The Pro/Am boxing cards are organized by the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) in collaboration with the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) and the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports.
The first gong to facilitate the amateur bouts sounds at 20:00hrs while the first professional bout gets underway thirty minutes after the amateur bouts would have concluded.
Fans are encouraged to support the venture which provides meaningful activities for local pugilists.
