With just a matter of days away from the start of the 4th Annual International Powerlifting Federation (IPF), North American Powerlifting Federation (NAPF) Caribbean Islands Bench Press & Powerlifting Championships at Princess Hotel, March 18-20, Courts Guyana Inc. is the latest corporate entity to add much needed power to the muscles of the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPF).
Yesterday at their Main Street headquarters, Marketing Executive Ms. Molly Hassan handed over a cheque for $150,000 to Treasurer of the GAPF Monty Livan, Courts’ contribution towards the successful hosting of the 4th Caribbean Championships.
Public Relations Officer Zeya Nasir in her opening remarks noted that Courts was very pleased to be associated with the GAPF at a time when they will be creating history since it is the first time that Guyana will be hosting these championships.
Ms. Hassan in her brief stated that the relationship with the GAPF goes back to about three years. “We have been following the sport over these years and have seen the commitment and hard work of the Federation with the many successes we have been having at the various Caribbean, Regional and International Competitions.”
“These guys have been doing extremely well and we are very pleased to be of great support to this Federation especially for this championship. We do wish the Guyana team all the very best and we do hope that we have lots of trophies to collect. Besides our corporate/social responsibility we do recognise that the Federation with team members has made a significant move in terms of showcasing Guyana and placing us on the competitive market as it relates to the sport.”
Ms. Hassan said she has read the respective profiles of the leading athletes, ‘Big’ John Edwards, Mervin ‘Spongy’ Moses and Randolph Morgan pointing out that they are very competitive and are winners. She wrapped up by saying that they {Courts} are looking forward to future collaboration with the GAPF.
Livan, in his response, thanked Courts for their contribution and partnership with the Federation pointing out that the entity has seen sports as a means of giving back to the community.
“We are a team of winners and come Friday and Saturday, Guyana will ensure that the Caribbean Championship stays here with our champions leading the way in achieving this aim. We thank Courts for this gesture and we hope that other corporate citizens will do their best to come on board with us to make this a success.”
Meanwhile, the overseas athletes will start arriving today ahead of what is anticipated to be an exciting championship featuring athletes from the host country, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, United States of America and the US Virgin Islands.
