In an effort to address the problem of mosquitoes in the city, the Mayor and City Council of Georgetown will from next week commence a massive fogging exercise. Public Relations Officer, Royston King, made this disclosure yesterday even as he revealed that every section of the city will benefit from the exercise which will be engaged by the Vector Control Unit of the municipality’s Public Health Department.
The anti-mosquito campaign, King said, will include larviciding which involves the use of an insecticide that specifically targets against the larval life stage of an insect.
According to King, this aspect of the campaign will be characteristic of spraying all streets, alleyways and drains. And then there will also be the process of adulticiding which includes the fogging of open spaces.
King said that the municipality is seeking to have the full co-operation of city residents as the fogging process is engaged. At the moment, he revealed that vector control workers are carrying out spraying works in North Ruimveldt and South Ruimveldt.
The process, King anticipates, will take about four weeks to be completed in its entirety. Among the areas to be targeted on Monday are North Ruimveldt, Festival City, Tucville (south) while Tuesday will see areas including South Ruimveldt Gardens up to High Palm Road being fogged on Tuesday.
Stevedore Housing Scheme and the continuation of South Ruimveldt Gardens will be addressed the following day as plans are engaged on Thursday to spray Roxanne Burnham Gardens, Guyhoc Gardens, Shirley Field Ridley and Industrial Estate. East Ruimveldt will be addressed on Friday.
Plans to fog West Ruimveldt, Alexander Village, Laing Avenue, Yarrow Dam and River View have been streamlined for Monday March 22 while attention will be focused on Lamaha Spring and Lamaha Park the next day.
On Wednesday March 24, King said that works will commence in Guyhoc Park and Tucville (north) and continue on Thursday in East and West La Penitence and in North East La Penitence and Castello Housing Scheme on Friday.
According to King, Albouystown will have to gear for the commencement of fogging on Monday March 29 while Tuesday will see works engaging on Meadowbrook, Century Palms Gardens and Lodge Housing Scheme. Wednesday March 31 works will start in the Le Repentir Cemetery and in Charlestown and continue the following day in Lodge.
There will be a break in the fogging exercise in observance of the Easter weekend but will resume on Tuesday April 6 in the areas of Wortmanville, Newburg and Werk-en-rust. Wednesday April 7 will sew works engaging in Kitty and on Thursday April 8 in Newtown (Kitty) and Bel Air Park.
Works will continue on Friday April 9 in Subryanville (west of Sheriff Street) and Campbellville and is set to conclude on Monday April 12 in Bel Air Springs, Bel Air Gardens, New Haven and Prashad Nagar.
Meanwhile, King said that the council is depending on citizens to aid the municipality’s effort to keep the city clean. He revealed that despite constant efforts to maintain the integrity of the city the efforts of the municipality is often compromised by some citizens who continue to dump their waste in alleyways and drains.
