A Coast Guard patrol, while returning to Parika from an authorised routine mission on Wednesday March 10, 2010, apprehended a boat captain north of the Hubu koker.
A subsequent search of the vessel unearthed a bag of marijuana hidden in its bow.
Members of the patrol noticed the captain acting in a suspicious manner and this prompted a search of the vessel. Derrick Singh, the boat’s captain, of East Bank Essequibo, told ranks that he encountered some engine problems and was seeking to correct the fault.
He was taken into Coast Guard custody and transported to the Parika Police Station where he and the prohibited substance were handed over to the police. The find was estimated at four pounds.
