Popular football promoter and former national coach, Lennox Arthur yesterday morning received a tidy cheque from Digicel to offset the costs of this year’s edition of the annual Mayor’s Cup Football tournament. Representative of the telephone company, Shonette Moore handed over the cheque valued some two hundred thousand to Arthur even as she pledged her company’s future support of the venture.
Arthur accepted the gift and extended his heartfelt gratitude to the sponsors even as he promised an action packed tournament this year.
Football lovers can expect the usual excitement that comes with the competition when the first whistle sounds for two exciting fixtures at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) Ground on Wednesday March 31.
Starting at 18:30hrs, Camptown FC oppose Victoria Kings while in the feature attraction, Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United compete against BV Triumph.
The following Saturday, April 3, Riddim Squad tackle Grove HiTech while Conquerors and New Amsterdam United duke it out in the feature attraction.
The action continues on Friday April 9 with another exciting double header when GDF take on Bakewell Buxton while Pele play Seawall FC.
Santos and Uitvlugt clash on April 10 in the supporting match to Western Tigers against Den Amstel feature scrap. Thereafter, the teams would be matched against the respective winners.
