A free public presentation on Transcendental Meditation as taught by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi will be held at School of the Nations, 41 New Market Street, Georgetown, on Sunday March 14 from 16:00 hours. According to instructor Richard Robertson, the presentation will include a slideshow highlighting more than 600 scientific researches done at more than 200 institutions worldwide, demonstrating the benefits of the Transcendental Meditation Technique in the areas of mental potential, health, social behaviour and world peace.
He added the Transcendental Meditation Technique was introduced to the world some 54 years ago by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi who trained over 40,000 teachers, opened thousands of teaching centres, and founded hundreds of schools, colleges and universities.
Robertson revealed the technique was first introduced to Guyanese by Dr. Bevan Morris and Dr. Ronald Dector, visiting professors of the Maharishi University of Management, Fairfield Iowa, USA, some 30 years ago.
He further disclosed that Sunday’s presentation will be given by himself and Janine Robertson, trained instructors of the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes, while representing the Global Country of World Peace (organization responsible for the TM Programme worldwide).
Robertson explained scientific research shows that the deep rest gained during the Transcendental Meditation technique allows the body to return to a more balanced state. He added that it decreases anxiety and depression, normalizes high blood pressure, reduces high cholesterol levels, improves bronchial asthma, and provides relief from insomnia. It can even improve reaction time and athletic performance.
Robertson asserted that people who practice Transcendental Meditation claim to have less stress, more energy, better sleep, and less tension in their life. He pointed out that many find it easier to reduce alcohol use, stop smoking, and let go of unhealthy habits. Research also shows that they have lower medical costs, fewer doctor visits, and less hospitalization.
According to Robertson, the Transcendental Meditation technique is done for 20 minutes twice per day sitting comfortably. It is a scientific method that can be practiced by anyone regardless of age, religion or educational background, and does not involve concentration or contemplation.
