Tony Sookram, 33, of Islington, East Bank Berbice, will know his fate today, after he was found with two grams of cannabis sativa in his possession at the Central Police Station on Wednesday last. Sookram had been arrested on a false pretence allegation.
The man was picked up by the police after it was reported that he obtained $5000 from a scrap iron dealer by falsely pretending that he was in a position to supply scrap iron.
The dealer found out that the promise was an empty one, when he made several unsuccessful attempts to locate Sookram who had by then disappeared with the money.
The police were informed and Sookram was subsequently arrested and told of the offence to which he denied knowledge. He was however taken to the station.
At the station, the police conducted a search on Sookram and found cannabis leaves, seeds and stems concealed in his right side pocket.
