Wakenaam, South and North Essequibo registered victories as the Good Wood Under-19 50 overs cricket competition commenced recently in Essequibo.
In the lone zone B game Wakenaam defeated Leguan by 4 runs. Playing at Green’s Park in Leguan, the visitors batted first and were bowled out for 138 in 37 overs.
Seon Venture 37, Don Murray 30, Hassan Mohamed 22 and Ahmad Khan 17 were the principal scorers as Tulsieram Premnauth captured 4-32 and Saif Razack 2-17.
Leguan in their turn at the crease could only manage 134 all out in 41 overs. J. Persaud led with 25 while extras also contributed with 25. Hassan Mohamed, Nokta Moses and former National Under-15 player Neal Ramalho grabbed 2 wickets each for Wakenaam. The game was reduced to 45 overs due to a late start.
In zone A, South overcame North by 93 runs. South took first strike and managed 214-7 in 50 overs. National Under-19 player Anthony Adams top scored with 81, Jermin Hohenkirk 34 and Vijay Suruj Paul 27. Adel Shazim took 2-30.
North in reply were dispatched for 121 in 29.2 overs. Vishnu Murray led with 38 and Keron Sewnarine 19. Javed Azeez bagged 3-23, Surujpaul 2-12 and Adams 2-20 for the victors.
In the matches played previously. South beat Central by 12 runs and North hammered Pomeroon by 97 runs.
Scores at Queenstown. South 103 all out in 23 overs (Robindra Persaud 40, Herry Green 3-19, Akeel wallace 4-27). Central 97 all out in 34 overs, (Herry Green 24, Rabindra Mohabir 22, Anthony Adams 3-23, Jermin Hohenkirk 2-24, Vijay Surujpaul 2-11).
At Walton Hall, North 184-8 in 27 overs (Vishnu Murray 38, Mark Tyrell 37). Pomeroon 87 all out in 23 overs. (Zaheer Mohamed)
