With the introduction of the biodigester to Essequibo, a pig rearing family at Zorg, would incur less in gas expense and fertilizer cost. In fact, this new gas, biogas, is free.
This is according to Walter Matadial, senior project officer attached at the Institute of Private Enterprise Development [IPED].
Mr. Matadial who was instrumental in setting up this project almost three weeks ago revisited the Sankar family yesterday.
He said that the project was first introduced to the St. Stanislaus College and also at farms at Linden, Berbice and Lethem.
He said that the project which is funded by the Inter American Development Bank in collaboration with IPED; will cut cost of production of farmers, especially in purchasing gas. He also noted that it would assist greatly in the reduction of carbon emission.
Matadial added that all the manure from the gas would also be accessible in the low development strategy.
The actual setting up of the biodigester is done three weeks prior to its readiness for usage. He said that the location of the digester can be done in any specific area.
