Griffith delighted to meet Gayle

West Indies Under-19 opening batsman Trevon Griffith was delighted to have been in the company of his favourite West Indian player, Digicel-sponsored Captain, Chris Gayle.
Griffith represented series sponsor Digicel at the toss to commence the First Digicel One Day International at the Guyana National Stadium.
“It was a great opportunity to be out standing with my favourite West Indies player, Captain Chris Gayle and Zimbabwe Captain Prosper Utseya,” Griffith said. “It was a wonderful feeling and one which a lot of young players like myself around the Caribbean and even the world would love to have so I really feel honoured,” the 19 year old said.
Griffith scored a fiery 87 from 64 balls against Pakistan in the Under-19 World Cup as he and young Barbadian batting sensation Kraigg Brathwaite put on 120 for the opening stand.
Griffith plays for the Demerara Cricket Club alongside Windies batsman Travis Dowlin. DCC is also the club of Windies legends Clive Lloyd and Lance Gibbs along with Roy Fredericks and Roger Harper who was also a former Head Coach of the regional side.
Griffith said that he too would like to go on and play for the West Indies. “Playing for the West Indies senior team is my goal and main purpose now, I am working hard and focusing on that at the moment,” explained the left handed batsman.
Griffith was the leading batsman in the last edition of the West Indies Cricket Board TCL Regional Three Day Under-19 Tournament after scoring 406 runs at an average of 40. He stroked a century against the Leeward Islands. He is a typically pugnacious batsman who vows to remain faithful to his positive style of play.
“It is my style, every cricketer has their style and while I could play differently depending on the situation I love to play positively and will continue to bat in such a way,” Griffith asserted.
