In scorching heat in Guyana’s capitol fast bowler Carlyle Collins and leg-spinner Parnell London grabbed six-wicket hauls for Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) and Police respectively, as action continued yesterday in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) 40-overs under-19 cricket competition.
At MSC, the host hammered GNIC by 7 wickets in a one-sided match that was completed at 13:32hrs while Police beat home team GYO by 104 runs.
Collins’ career-best 6-25 helped to skittle out GNIC for 42 in just 10 overs and got support from his new ball partner Neil Barry Junior as only Quincy Ovid-Richardson (17) and Premchand Sookdeo (8) put together 25 for the first wicket.
But Demerara U-19 all-rounder Delroy Charles’ 9 was the next best score for GNIC as 5 of their batsmen made ducks. Barry, the son of former Guyana batsman Neil Barry, took 2-17 for MSC who reached 43-7 in reply.
Former national under-15 Skipper Kwame Crosse, already with a century in the competition, struck 3 fours in an unbeaten 18 while Delon Moffatt made 13 as Charles took 2-4.
At GYO, London followed up a solid 40 with 6-10 as Police, who played Female National Inter-Guiana games field athlete Shinead Emerson in their line-up, won easily.
Police made 242 all out with Skipper and former Guyana under-15 player Shameer Fazal top scoring with a fluent 48, while London (40) and Emerson (27) all batted well.
After Guyana under-19 left-arm pacer Andre Stoll took an early wicket the spin pair of London and National U-19 off-spinner Ricardo Devers ensured GYO were never able to challenge their team’s score although the stylish Parvindra Lall Persaud fell nine short of his fifty.
But Lakeram Goberdhan (13) was the only other batsman to pass 10 as Devers, the son of Former Guyana spinner Sean Devers, supported with 2-22 as he returned to local cricket after a break for studies.
Meanwhile, the first practice match of a possible three, to be used to select the Georgetown team for the Demerara Cricket Board under-19 limited overs competition, has been fixed for Friday.
