With the horseracing industry becoming more competitive, a number of horse owners and stables are moving swiftly to enhance their racing stock, as they look for the for the cutting edge as the 2010 racing season moves into top gear.
Recently a number of the stables have been pulling out all the stops as they go the distance and reload their stocks with a number of imports. Horses are been imported from as far as North America and various countries in the Caribbean with USA, Trinidad and Jamaica being the main hunting grounds.
With injury, death, sales, age, over work and some of the animals being used for breeding purposes, taking a toll on those available, the owners are at their wits end to keep up with the constant demands for the busy racing season. The best thing is to have enough horses in stock so that horses will always be available to take part in races.
There are signs that there are some improvements in the racing industry in Guyana and with races being held on a regular basis, most of the owners are making sure that enough animals are available, in top shape and are prepared to take to the track whenever race day arrives.
The Habibulla, Jumbo Jet, Crawford and Elcock stables have all been replenishing their stocks.
But the latest entity to have done so is the Chris Jagdeo and sons Construction stables situated at No1 Road Corentyne, Berbice. Some six animals have arrived to join forces with those already available.
The Chris Jagdeo Stable is one of the leading stables in the country and according to trainer Tribowan ‘Turbo’ Jagdeo their aim is to keep on top of the game. All of the animals have been imported from Trinidad. Some will go into racing immediately while others will be groomed for action later in the year.
