Elder Solomon of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, hands over a volleyball to Mr Luknauth of the Line Path Sports Club while members of the CDA and other sports clubs look on.
The Corriverton Development Association (CDA) recently collected over $1.8M in sports and other key pieces of equipment from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
According to a the CDA, the items include laptops, projector, printer, microphones, amplifiers and speakers, DVD players, footballs, volleyballs, basketballs, crickets bats, balls and pads, table tennis equipment, boxing gloves and head guards.
The items will be distributed to the Skeldon Community Centre as well as the Scottsburg and Line Path Sports Clubs.
According to spokesperson for the CDA, Lyndon Murray, the club was started in 2007 with dance and karate lessons, along with Information Technology classes in 2008, which was sponsored with a grant from the European Union and the Guyana government.
CDA President, Everett Harewood, at whose residence the entity is located, in thanking the church for the donation, noted that the sports equipment will serve to increase competition among the various sports clubs in the area.
He also indicated that the club will be working to enhance foreign language classes and also conduct courses in public speaking.
Elder Whitehead, of the church, during the donation, said that he was impressed by the work of the club.
