United States-based female national basketball player, Miriam McKenzie was among six players named to the Women’s Basketball Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) First Team for the new season earlier this week.
McKenzie, who attends Loyola University in Maryland, was among six other players on the All-MAAC First Team. McKenzie, a sophomore from Columbia, had a breakout year as she finished second in the League with 16.6 points per game. She was fifth in the Conference with a 41.6 field-goal percentage, sixth in rebounding at 7.7 ‘boards’ per contest and seventh in assists per game with 2.8. She was chosen as the MAAC ‘Player of the Week’ on January 4 this year.
At age 16, Mariam represented Guyana at the 20th Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Women’s Senior Championships in Morivis, Puerto Rico in 2007. She was born to Guyanese parents in Staten Island, United States.
The All-MAAC First Team is made up of Fairfield University’s Stephanie Geehan, Iona College’s Thazina Cook, Manhattan College’s Michelle Pacheco, Marist College’s Erica Allenspach and Rachele Fitz.
One of the six players will be named the 2009/10 Pepsi Max MAAC ‘Player of the Year’.
