According to a release from the Police Public Relations Office, on Thursday last, police ranks assisted by the Guyana Defence Force Air Corps conducted a drug eradication operation at Gateroy, 55 miles up the Berbice River.
During the operation, a total of ten fields of marijuana plants, comprising about eighteen acres, were found and destroyed. The fields contained approximately 28,000 plants ranging from one foot to 10 feet in height.
In addition, a building with approximately 3,000 kilograms of compressed marijuana, along with 15 nurseries with about 45,000 marijuana seedlings and 8 camps were found and destroyed.
No arrest was made.
