– France, Dover to attend High Level Coaching Course
Guyana’s football is expected to benefit from a number of initiatives outlined by the Caribbean Football Union in collaboration with FIFA.
That is the word from President of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Colin Klass, who called a Meeting with the media yesterday to report on the just concluded Congress which was held in Trinidad and Tobago.
Klass, the current CFU Vice-President could not represent Guyana in his current capacity, but General Secretary Noel Adonis, who was present at the Meeting and Treasurer Dwayne Lovell, did on behalf of the GFF.
Klass said that among the initiatives Guyana will benefit from are Courses which will be organised and funded by FIFA which include How to manage a club, the staging of FUTSAL competitions, Beach Soccer, an Elite Coaching Course, Grassroots Seminars and a Youth Development Course, all aimed at improving every aspect of the game.
FIFA according to Klass will provide all the technical personnel and the resources to host these courses which will be held right here in Guyana.
He added that it is expected that coming out of these Courses, clubs and participants will be adequately educated which will lead to a more holistic development within the sport.
Touching on other matters, Klass reported that the GFF was able to fulfil the requirements of submitting an Audited Financial Statement which according to the preliminary review not only was concluded on time, but upheld the usual excellence that has been customary.
The GOAL Project, Klass said should start moving full speed ahead when the Contractor’s Contract arrives in Guyana within a couple of days.
Touching on another matter of importance, the President disclosed that FIFA has recently made amendments to its constitution and he is hoping the same will be done here and forwarded to the World Governing Body.
Klass also revealed that the monies accrued from the local friendly matches in aid of the Haiti Earthquake Fund were handed over at the Congress to the Haitian delegation.
The amount presented was US$2,000, while the GFF donated $200,000 and the Guyana Football Referees Council US$500.
In terms of Technical Development courses planned, they will receive assistance from the English FA and it will include one for media personnel, while ‘B’ Licence Coaches Lyndon France and Wayne Dover are anticipated to attend a Coaching Course overseas.
Meanwhile, one area of concern that was discussed among member countries was the high cost of air travel to participate in competitions and friendlies.
Klass felt that the airline industry should give more consideration to sport teams and athletes.
Former FIFA Development Officer Harold Taylor was recognised for his long and dedicated service to the sport.
