Dear Editor,
An important lesson to be learnt by the junior athletes of Guyana is that, you have to be affiliated to an educational facility when there is a selection process for representation at some, or, if not, all overseas meetings. Maybe the same applies for overseas scholarships.
This comes from a recent report in the dailies about some impressive athletes from a recent local meeting who were omitted from the team heading to French Guiana for the Inter Guiana Games.
It was very informative reading.
I did miss the name of Ricardo “Quick Silver” Martin, who hails from Lethem (Region 9) from the list of selected hopefuls and the thought came to mind, that maybe the selection committee has him on the list for the Carifta Games.
My concern is that, I hope those potential and gifted athletes from other regions don’t get sidelined.
One may argue that the expenses are beyond their pockets to traverse those hopefuls and if that is the case, the public should be notified.
I would definitely make an effort to support as many fund raising activities to offset expenses for athletes, especially raffles.
Joel Bascom, I hope you get to read the following.
The time spent being very upbeat and placing some focus on the athletic ambassadors of Guyana and using the forum of the dailies, is merely because “I believe” they have the abilities to create athletic greatness in the international arena.
They will have to dig deeper and execute those hidden talents.
At some stage, I will take a break to attend to other projects which will need my undivided attention.
If I may have set the tone in fighting the battle with my quest of sharing some belief’s of mine which is, I firmly believe with the investment of athletes because it ties in deeply with promoting and showcasing talented people of, Guyana, I can safely say, I made some effort.
I also believe that there are persons in society whose words have got a great lot of weight and can get things done in a jiffy.
I urge those individuals to consider and do what you can. To those hoping to get to the London 2012 Olympic Games, free tickets are not given out unless it goes to me. So, this is enough time for you to get going with intense training, attend as many meetings, stay away from junk food and eat healthy organic foods which are in abundance in Guyana. Remember you have to meet the qualifying times set out by the IOC.
Can someone get me one of those fancy pens? I understand there are quite a few on display at King’s Jewellery World or it might be somewhat cheaper to order on line.
Over and out.
