Dear Editor,
Water is an essential commodity, which should be provided to every Guyanese household. How can any individual cease or refuse to provide such an important service?
Recently the people of Great Diamond Squatting Area had their supply cut off. When they inquired the reason behind such an unjustifiable move by the Guyana Water Incorported (GWI) they were told, “When the area is regularised the supply of water will be restored”.
If the area takes the next five years to be regularised, then the people will have to wait that long to have water running through their taps.
Come on, this is the most stupid thing I have ever heard in my lifetime. Can anyone at GWI bear the burden of having no running water, and to crown it, have to walk at least one mile just to survive.
They should be ashamed of themselves, and should have used better judgment before acting.
Something is definitely wrong with the minds of our administrators. How can they be so cruel and heartless? For the past five years the people were provided with an efficient supply, and no one at GWI saw it as illegal. So why now cry out?
A call is made to the Honorable Minister of Water; use your good office, sir, and have compassion for we the poor and suffering people, so that many of our children will not have to fetch water from a long distance and sometimes reach late for school, and also the housewives who have to join the line comprising those having very little water to do household chores.
Help is needed now.
