Rising Star defeated United Brothers by 31 runs to win the final of the South Essequibo twenty/20 cricket competition played on Sunday at Suddie ground on the Essequibo Coast.
Rising Star won the toss and decided to bat first and scored 159 all out in their allotted overs. Essequibo opener Norman Federicks top scored with 55 (2×4, 1×6) while R. Ramdass made 26 and Jagdeep Dindyal 24. Javed Azeez captured 3-25.
United Brothers responded with 128-9 in 20 overs. Chubinda Lall was their leading run getter with 32 and S. Green supported with 17. Royan Federicks and Floyd Mall took three wickets apiece for the Rising Star who collected the winning trophy. United Brothers took the runner up prize while Norman Federicks was given the man-of-the-match award.
Speaking at the simple ceremony after the game coach Forbes Daniels encouraged the players to take the game seriously. He told Kaieteur Sport that the South Essequibo 2010 season will officially be launched on Sunday with a 7 overs knockout competition at the Suddie ground and a 50 overs competition will start the following week.
