The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTY&SC) Pepsi Under-19 team last week donated $75,000 worth of text books to the Lower Corentyne Secondary School as part of the Club’s 2010 Anti- Drugs and Pro-Education campaign which will target over 50,000 youths in the County of Berbice.
Team Captain Dominic Rickey in handing books which included texts on Math, English, Social Studies, and Science reminded the students that they (RHTY&SC) won the Berbice Under-15, 17, 19 and 23 titles in 2009 as well as the national Women’s tournament. The Senior Team he said also did well, winning four titles.
Rickey stated that the donation was their way of giving back to the community for supporting them through the year and also to encourage youths to stay in school and make education the number one goal in life.
Secretary /CEO Hilbert Foster praised the Managers and players of the Pepsi team for their hard work which is making a difference in the lives of their peers and for being positive and inspiring role models.
Foster explained that the cricketers each year are mandated to undertake at least four projects to assist others under the Self Development Programme which helps them understand the importance of assisting others.
The donation Foster noted was the team’s way of giving thanks to God for guiding them successfully through 2009.
Senior Master of Lower Corentyne Secondary School Juran Ally in accepting the donation expressed gratitude to the members of the team and stated that the textbooks would be placed in the School’s Library.
He articulated delight that a Youth Team can assist their peers to understand the value of education. While complimenting the players for being true role models, Ally wished them a highly successful 2010.
Loyden Lewis is the Deputy to Captain Rickey while Patrick Lewis is the Manager and Moonish Singh, Coach/Coordinator.
