Dear Editor,
Is there any legislation for noise nuisance?
Why I asked this question is because of the many incidents that I have seen letters in the newspapers complaining of continuous noise in various areas.
First of all, if a law exists please let me give my take on how the law should be enforced. If someone’s normal activities are being affected by the sound of loud noise and that person makes a report to the law enforcement agencies, the necessary actions should be taken to prevent such. I have known of many reported cases to the police and to date I have not seen one person being prosecuted for this except for some minibus drivers.
However, it brings into concern my second question. How do people get permission to hold events in the streets and should there be a cut off time?
I would be grateful if the Hon Minister of Home Affairs can publish such legislation in the press (if existing) so that people can know their rights.
R. Joseph
