Simone King, also called Diana De Nobrega, the woman who allegedly embezzled millions of dollars from unsuspecting customers under the pretence that she could deliver motor vehicles to them, was yesterday slapped with four additional charges for obtaining money by false pretence.
It was alleged that King obtained $300,000 on December 9, 2009 from Eslyn Benn, under the pretence that she would deliver a minibus. A second charge read that she allegedly obtained $200,000 from Wayne Robinson under the pretence that she would deliver a Toyota Raum.
It was further alleged that on January 11, 2010 King obtained the sum of $400,000 from Ronald Durant under the pretence that she could deliver a Toyota Raum. The fourth and final charge stated that the woman again obtained some $500,000 from Dwayne Crandon under the pretence that she could deliver a Toyota AT 212 motor car.
King was not required to plead to all the indictable charges when she appeared before the Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, at the Georgetown Magistrates Court yesterday. She was represented by attorney at law Gordon Gilhuys.
The lawyer in his bail application stated that his client had already been granted bail in the High Court. King is presently on $800,000 bail with regards to the eight pervious charges.
Gilhuys further asked for reasonable bail with regards to the new charges.
Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford did not oppose bail, but asked that bail be very substantial. The prosecutor also asked that King lodge her passport with the police.
Gilhuys interjected and told the court that his client’s passport has already been lodged with the police.
Prosecutor Telford further noted that more charges are expected to be instituted against King.
Gilhuys further opined that if his client is to report to the police station daily it would be a further punishment to King and it would also impose a hardship on her. The magistrate subsequently granted King bail in the sum of $250,000 on each of the charges which were read to her. She is expected to make another court appearance on March 22.
King had appeared in court almost three weeks ago to face eight charges of obtaining money by false pretence.
The prosecution had earlier stated that King committed the acts after she was granted bail on a similar offence on January 19. King was implicated in a visa scam which left a number of persons penniless. She was granted $1M bail in the High Court.
