A 16-year-old murder accused who escaped from the Turkeyen Police Station, had his freedom cut short when he was recaptured by police early yesterday morning, thanks to the help of his relatives.
Kaieteur News understands that the relatives provided police with information on where the youth was most likely to go following his escape on Tuesday afternoon.
Acting on the information the police swooped down on a location in Grove on the East Bank of Demerara and recaptured the fugitive.
The juvenile, who is accused of the rape and murder of a woman on the West Coast of Demerara, ran out of the station lock-ups after the door to his cell was left opened.
Kaieteur News understands that other inmates at the juvenile facility confirmed that the youth used the opportunity of the opened door to make good his escape at around 17:50 hours on Tuesday.
Police had combed the Sophia area immediately after the escape but found no trace of the escapee.
This newspaper understands that they had also made checks at the young man’s mother’s home on the East Bank of Demerara.
Meanwhile, police on the West Coast of Demerara are on the hunt for two more juvenile offenders who also escaped from police custody, this time from the Den Amstel Police Station.
While police have not officially confirmed the escape, this newspaper understands that the youths escaped on Tuesday afternoon also.
This newspaper was unable to ascertain the details of the escape as police officials were tightlipped on the issue.
