Donate $100,000 to McGill Sports Club
Cricket fans turned up in their numbers at Ochoo Cricket Ground to witness for the first time softball matches playing under lights last Saturday night at Canal #1. In the main event Canal #1 Masters played Floodlights in a 20/20 softball affair. Canal #1 Masters won the toss, batted first and made 144 for 9 in their allotted overs with Eon Williams hitting a blistering 97 not out lower down the order.
They were restricted to this total due to some good bowling from Mike ‘Shane Warne’ Singh who claimed 7 wickets for 9 runs off his 4 overs, mesmerizing the Canal upper batting order.
Floodlights in reply did not started well as their first 5 wickets fell for 40 runs. It was veteran batsmen Wayne Jones 58 not out and Richard Persaud 38 not out that took Floodlights in their eventual target with 1 over to spare
At the presentation ceremony the Guyana Floodlights association donated $100,000 to the McGill Superstar Sports Club. Captain of the club Sudesh Persaud was very thankful to Dharam Persaud, the Floodlights Squad and all sponsors of trophies for making the event successful.
In the earlier games, 5 overs, 7-per-side action, 18 teams took part in this knockout tournament. Bonseka defeated Hydronie in the finals. Hydronie batted first and made 70 off their allotted 5 overs. Bonseka made it in 3.4 overs. These games were held as a fundraiser for McGill Superstar Sports Club of Canal #1.
