THE East Coast Pandits and Mandir Leaders group pulled off another historic event with the Holi Mela at Enmore Blossom Scheme, East Coast Demerara last Saturday.
The mela attracted more than 5,000 people.
Organisers said that the extraordinary attendance and participation indicated that Hindu festivals and occasions can still be celebrated in a dignified way as members of different temples maintained the sacredness of this Holi festival with all stage performances. Hindu unity and the promotion of Sanatan Dharma were clear to everyone who sat and enjoyed this spectacular event.
The group said that its objective is to bring favourable influences on the minds of the masses as it continues to educate Hindus around the country.
According to the organizers, the sole purpose of the mela was to showcase local talent, mainly from East Coast Demerara. They also pledged to organize more such events across the country to help resuscitate cultural traditions and customs.
The group is also directing its attention towards reformation of youths and to enlighten them about the benefits of the spiritual aspects of life rather than indulging in alcohol drinking, drug use, vulgar dancing and partying.
The East Coast Pandits and Leaders group said it will continue to strive for Hindu unity in the country.
The group also distributed more than $60,000 to youths who participated in the event. The success prompted the sponsors to continue the Holi mela on Phagwah Day which also attracted thousands.
The organizers have already planned a list of other activities for the Hindu calendar year with the next activity being Indian Immigration Day celebration. (Pandit Amit Persaud)
