Despite being pushed back by one week, the Kennard Memorial Turf Club Race Meet is still expected to produce some exciting races when it is held on March 14, at Bust Lot Farm on the Corentyne in Berbice.
That was the word from Organiser Justice Cecil Kennard, who was presented with a sizeable cheque from Digicel’s Sales Manager Dwayne Scott to the tune of $250,000 yesterday, at the Company’s Head Office in Kingston.
According to Kennard the cheque represents the total prize monies and the winning trophy for the ‘G’ Class event which will be run over 5 furlongs. He mentioned that this is the second time the club has received sponsorship from Digicel, recalling a similar gesture made by the Company for their Christmas Meet last year.
He pointed out that sponsorship is absolutely necessary for the survival of sports and Digicel has recognised this and added its support which the club is extremely grateful for.
Kennard disclosed that the club also has planned Meets for May, August and Boxing Day in December.
