National junior table tennis players, Nigel Bryan and Chelsea Edghill picked up two titles each while Amit Mookram, Jamaal Duff, Samuel Fraser and Adielle Rosheuvel snared one each at the Oscar Shew Memorial Table Tennis Tournament last weekend.
Bryan defeated Joel Alleyne 11-7, 11-5, 8-11, 11-3 to capture the 21 Years and Under Open title as Dwayne Gibson beat Darwin Walcott 9-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-6 for third place.
Bryan also won the 18 Years and Under Men’s title when he defeated Denzel Duff 12-10, 11-5, 10-12, 11-3 with Joseph Johnson picking up third place with an 11-6, 11-3, 12-10 win against Samuel Fraser.
Edghill defeated Priscilla Greaves in straight sets11-4, 11-5, 13-11 and Tiara Narain also in straight sets11-4, 11-7, 11-9 to capture the 13 Years and Under Girls’ title in a round robin playoff. Greaves beat Narain 11-8, 12-10, 11-8 to finish second with Narain settling for third place.
Edghill won her second title in the15 Years and Under Girls’ category when she defeated Akeicia Nedd in the final 11-6, 11-4 and 11-6. Greaves won 5-11, 12-10, 11-6, 11-5 against Narain for third place.
In the 10 Years and Under Boys’ round robin playoff, Amit Mookram beat Khalil Ninvalle 11-6, 11-9, 11-8 and Jeremey Singh 8-11, 11-5, 7-11, 15-13 and 11-9 to take the title. Ninvalle defeated Singh 11-7, 11-9, 5-11 and 11-4 for second place.
Jamaal Duff won 11-5, 13-11 and 11-4 against Joseph Johnson in the 13 Years and Under Boys’ final with Ryan Narine defeating Elishaba Johnson 11-9, 4-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-6 for third place.
In the 15 Years and Under Boys contest, Samuel Fraser defeated Jamaal Duff in the final 6-11, 11-8, 11-6 and 18-16 with Denzel Duff taking third place with a 10-12, 11-9, 11-8 and 11-9 win against Dillon Mahadeo.
Adielle Rosheuvel beat Chelsea Edghill 11-9, 11-8 and 11-6 in the 18 Years and Under Girls playoff with Akeicia Nedd taking third place from Priscilla Greaves with a 13-11, 11-6 and 11-6 victory.
The Guyana Table Tennis Association thanked sponsor Manniram Shew of Shew’s General Store and all those persons who supported the tournament.
