… Murdered remigrant
Police yesterday detained two more associates of Iswar Mithu, but officials said investigators still have no solid leads as to who smothered the 65-year-old remigrant in his Peter’s Hall home.
A source said that the two men are residents of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, and they were among persons who regularly visited Mithu.
Two other persons are also in custody. One of them is said to be a handyman who had lived briefly at the slain man’s residence.
Kaieteur News had reported that two other persons who were held on Wednesday were released on station bail. Mithu’s partly nude body was found on Wednesday in the bedroom of his Peter’s Hall home.
A bed-sheet was wrapped around his hands while a pair of the man’s sweat-pants was tied around his feet.
Robbery appears to be the motive since a heavy-duty washing machine; microwave, blender and television set were all missing.
The killers gained entry by cutting a metal grill covering a window and removing the louvre panes. The victim who had a hearing defect, lived in the United States for over 35 years and had only returned to Guyana about a year ago.
