Defending champions South Ruimveldt registered an easy five wickets win over Corentyne Comprehensive to retain their Guyana Cricket Board/Ministry of Education/National Sports Commission Inter-Secondary Schools Under-19 Female Cricket title when the final was played yesterday at the DCC ground in Queenstown.
Needing 74 runs for victory after dismissing the visitors for a paltry 73 in 27 of the allotted 30 overs, South Ruimveldt led by responsible knocks from their Captain Leshauna Toussaint (27 not out) and opener Jocell Joseph (24) reached the required target, ending on 77-5 in 17.3 overs.
Toussaint’s innings lasted 39 balls and included three fours, while Joseph’s own also contained three boundaries off 34 deliveries.
Melissa Durant picked up 2-16 from 6 overs, while Plaffiana Millington captured 2-23 off 6.
Earlier, Corentyne Comprehensive won the toss and elected to take first strike and found the going difficult eventually succumbing to some good bowling by Shenicka Estwick, who grabbed 3-13 off 6 overs and Letitia Myles, who had figures of 3-24 off 6 as they combined to restrict their opponents for what always looked like a manageable total.
Nojema Budhoo was the only batter to reach double figures, she made 16.
Toussaint later received the Andre Howard trophy for the Most Outstanding Player in the match, while she also carted off the trophy for scoring the most runs in the competition.
