On February 6, last, Rawle Hutson was struck down by a police car on the Land of Canaan Public Road.
Several eyewitnesses had reported that the driver of the car was at the time of the incident on his cellular phone. Ever since the incident, the 36-year-old father of five has not been able to work. The driver of the car, who was placed in a position to uphold the law, has not been charged. According to the victim, he was only visited once by a police rank who attempted to take a statement but then accused him of being in the wrong.
The man said that ever since the incident he has been at home unable to work and is also now burdened with having to purchase his own medication. Hutson added that things would be a lot easier if he had received some sort of monetary compensation.
When the incident occurred he lost his spectacles, his cellular phone and his bicycle which was his only mode of transportation to get to work.
On February 6, last motorcar, PJJ 7790, hit Hutson who was standing just in front of the Two Brothers Gas Station at Land of Canaan.
Hutson, of Land of Canaan Gardens, was hurled high into the air. Residents in the area who witnessed the incident had reported that they noticed the policeman using his cell phone just before the cyclist was hit as he was standing in front of the gas station when it happened.
The man added that the skid marks on the road stretched for about 35 feet and the police vehicle hit the cyclist while he was in the corner of the road, which caused the man to flip in the air twice before landing.
