Yesterday the police issued a wanted bulletin for Shafdar Ali, the Region Four Executive Officer. They are saying that he is wanted for questioning in relation to a multi-million dollar fraud committed on the State of Guyana.
The release states that anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Shafdar Ali is asked to contact the police on telephone numbers 225-6411, 225-2700, 226-9941, 225-2227, 226-1326, 225-8196, 225-3650, 911 or the nearest police station.
All information will be treated with strict confidence, the police said.
Shafdar Ali who stands at 5ft. 7inches tall is described as fair in complexion. His last known address is listed as Lot 83 Better Hope North, ECD.
On February 25, a release from GINA stated that Ali was sent on leave following an Auditor General’s preliminary report into alleged financial irregularities at the Regional Democratic Council.
According to a release from the Government Information Agency (GINA), Local Government and Regional Development Minister, Kellawan Lall, made this decision after the preliminary report.
The report also led to the intervention of the police. Ali and the RDC Expediter, Bharrat Persaud, were both sent on leave.
When contacted, Minister Lall said “I have already made statements on the issues. I have nothing more to say.”
