Police in the ancient county continued their crackdown on marijuana cultivation in the Berbice River with the destruction of a six-acre field at Gateroy yesterday
The field comprised approximately 30,000 plants ranging from 1 foot to 7 feet in height, and over 100 pounds of compressed marijuana were also found.
Four camps were destroyed while a weighing scale, three spray cans, two motor blowers and an air rifle were seized.
The police did not say if anyone was arrested.
Yesterday’s operation follows closely on the heels of Saturday’s raid in the Berbice River in which three persons, including a teenager, were arrested.
Meanwhile, also in Berbice, five men are assisting the police there with investigations into the discovery of an unlicenced .38 revolver with one matching round.
A release from Eve Leary stated that at about 14: 45 hours yesterday ranks of a mobile police patrol stopped and searched a motor car at Vryheid Public Road, New Amsterdam, Berbice, and unearthed the weapon.
