The Guyana Floodlights A & B Squad, just back from the USA where they played in the Florida Cup Masters Tournament, will tomorrow night play against the Canal #1 Masters at the Ochoo Cricket Ground, which is close the to conservancy.
Action starts 9:00am tomorrow where sixteen teams will be engaged in five overs, seven-a-side, knockout softball matches, with the final playing under lights. Entrance fee is $4,000 and many trophies will up for grab. Any interested teams can call 624-1463 or 669-1770. These matches are being held to raise funds for the McGill Superstars Sports Club of Canal #1.
Veteran softball player Dharam Persaud, who was born and raised in Canal #1, has been instrumental in getting the Floodlights team and its lighting equipments there. According to Dharam he is happy to organize this event since this will contribute towards the development of sports in the area and is also a way of making a meaningful contribution towards the village of his birth.
He is a founder member of the Guyana Floodlight Association and is proud to be among so many distinguish gentlemen who are doing charitable work throughout the country and will also like to commend the team for reaching the finals in the Florida Cup two weeks ago.
Dharam Persaud will be captaining the Canal #1 Masters, while Ricky Deonarain will lead Floodlights and this match starts at 7:00. Admission is free and Food and Drinks will be on sale.
