– wants to “establish a new relationship”
The Maryland-based, Washington DC Jammers Basketball Organisation have dispatched a congratulatory message to the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) recently elected Executive with the view of re-establishing a union.
The DC Jammers have always been close to the local federation and had become a yearly fixture on its calendar with visits to compete against the national team in a developmental thrust geared at upgrading the game of local players.
The DC Jammers was also the source of providing many US-based Guyanese players the opportunity to represent their country. The unit that represented Guyana at the Caribbean Championships in 2007 came largely from the DC Jammers.
However, the relationship with the Maryland-based Organisation and the GABF has had its fair share of challenges in the late Godwin McPherson administration, with the GABF basically piggybacking on them for their successes.
The DC Jammers wants to return to its developmental function with local basketball and as such they are “hopeful that this new relationship will be beneficial to the development of basketball in Guyana,” the prelude to the message stated.
Below is the full text of the message that Head Coach, Michael Creppy; Assistant Coach, Clarence Wallerson and Team Manager, Dennis Baird co-signed:
Congratulations David Patterson on your election as the President of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation. The DC Jammers Organisation looks forward to working with you and the other members of your federation’s staff to help in the continued development of basketball at the national level.
The Washington DC Jammers is a 501©3 Non Profit Organisation located in Maryland, United States of America.
Over the last 20-plus years, we have consistently returned to Guyana at the request of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation to help and promote the development of basketball at the national level.
We would like to explore the possibility with you of returning to Guyana this summer to play in a Memorial Tournament honouring Col. Godwin McPherson for his contributions to the sport at the national level. Although it is a bit late, if you think that a tournament of this nature is doable sometime this summer, we would have to be in contact as soon as possible to work out the logistics.
Congratulations again on becoming the President of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation.
