Dear Editor,
The Muslim community is being encouraged by no less than the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) and the Indian Arrival Committee (IAC) to reflect on the life of the greatest benefactor to mankind, Muhammad, on an occasion granted by Government as a National “holy-day” – Youman Nabi or “Day of the Prophet”.
According to Professor Hart of Yale University on the 100 most influential personalities to have walked the earth, Muhammad, seal of the prophets, was adjudged the most influential – el numero uno!
Islam is a revealed way of life, commencing with the first Prophet Adam and came to its perfection and completion with the death of Muhammad.
Muhammad “is” so loved and favoured by Allah (the true name of the Creator) that he, Muhammad is described in the Quran as the “slave of Allah” and the “perfect example” and by one of his wives as the “walking-Quraan”.
All Muslims, bar none, understand and practice their religion (way of life) by two sources: a) the Quran and b) the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad; i.e. what he said, did or approved.
In the Quraan, Allah (T) states, “If you love Allah (T) then follow Muhammad, then Allah (T) will love you.
In the Sunnah (the way of the prophet, the prophet(s) said, “I am the best among you who fear Allah”.
It is obvious therefore, what Allah requires of us is obedience to Him (T) through the example of His (T) Last and final messenger and prophet(s)
It is reported that the prophet(s) would fast weekly on the “day” of his(s) birth which he(s) also claims as the day of the final weekly recordings of deeds and, therefore tried to influence his(s) Lord’s favour on this important day.
It appears to me, if we are to listen and reflect on the life of such an illustrious personality, then we should try to live by his(s) example. We must allow the dictates of Allah and the best of mankind to infuse in our “daily-lives”.
When we inculcate Islamic principles in our everyday lives then there will always be the commemorating of the life of Prophet Muhammad.
Muslims have become weak and are now followers of exploits other than that taught and shown to us by our master, leader, guide and teacher, Muhammad.
But as he(s) said that a time will come when we’ll follow the unbelievers even if they go into a lizard’s hole”.
In order for us to vie with Christianity and Christmas, we have gleefully accepted as a “holy-day” on behalf of Islam, a holiday that which never existed but was given for political expediency.
Muslims, let’s live by the words of Allah and the Sunnah of His (T) Prophet.
