Kevin Gamell, 41, of North West District, and father of seven had his right leg amputated six days ago at the Georgetown Public Hospital Cooperation (GPHC). He is awaiting blood to have a full recovery.
According to Kevin Gamell, in 2007, he was a chain saw operator and stumbled upon a gun trap. He was severely wounded in his right leg.
He said that he then spent nine months in the hospital and received two surgeries but his leg became infected. He had to visit the GPHC once each month to receive treatment.
He added that a bone graft was done with a specimen from his rib, however, that did not help much since the leg was eventually amputated.
The father of seven said that his present state would not stop him from leading a normal life since he intends to have a prosthesis leg and to develop his business plans.
An official at the GPHC said that the blood the patient needs has to be screened and that he would eventually receive it as early as possible.
